What is Viscosity?
Viscosity is a measure of a liquid’s resistance to flow, which describes the internal friction of a moving fluid. In the observation, low-viscosity adhesives will flow more readily than high-viscosity ones. For example, water has a much lower viscosity than honey and adhesive, so the water will flow easily and quickly because the friction of the molecular is quite little when it is in motion.
How to measure the viscosity of adhesive?
There are different ways to measure the viscosity of the adhesive, today we would like to explain how it measures by a rotational viscometer.
Rotational viscometers, also known as Brookfield type viscometers, use a torsion spring to measure the torque required to rotate a spindle in the material. Changing rotor speed and size allows for the measurement of different ranges of viscosity.
Also, viscosity is highly dependent on temperature, decreasing with increased temperature. Typically, we will measure the viscosity at 25℃ in cps, coming in a wide range of viscosities from as low as 200 cps to in excess of 500,000 cps.
Following is the viscosity of the different liquids.
Viscosity of Adhesives
Choosing the right viscosity for an adhesive is quite important, it will really help you to find a good adhesive. Also, Our expert will consider the fluid flow of the adhesive to meet the requirement of the machine. Most adhesive manufacturers list the viscosity and the solid content on TDS to help engineers determine which product is most suitable for a specific application. Moreover, it is very useful information to measure material properties including molecular weight and density, both of them may affect flow behavior.

Dear Sujita,
Thanks for your comment. We are an adhesive manufacturer and the content just explain viscosity in an easy way. There are many kinds of instrument able to measure viscosity.
